A lot of you have emailed us about updates on Brett’s condition. We have some good news and some bad news to
report. First off, Brett’s body responded well to initial treatments. The I.V. stabilized him and early this
morning (Tuesday, December 10, 2002) Brett made communication with the staff of the treatment center. By noon
Brett was up and walking around and appeared to of had lunch. After a shower Brett took a two-hour nap before
his scheduled physical and daily evaluation. Sometime around 4:00pm staff of the treatment center went to
Brett’s room to prepare him for rehabilitative therapy. It was at this time that they discovered that Brett
had escaped from the clinic by climbing out the window of his room. We know that Brett was angry about our actions
to bring an end to his hunger strike. However, this decision was made only with the best intentions for Brett and
his family. Although Rolling Stone has been more receptive to an amicable solution in the past 24 hours, Brett feels
that he needs to keep his end of the bargain.
If anyone in the Los Angeles and Malibu areas come into contact with Brett please contact us immediately.
