When my band Spartacus toured in the fall of 1981 we were treated like royalty on the road. Tour promoters knew that they had a "top line" rock and roll band, and that we would deliver the goods. If Spartacus asked for something backstage, trust me, we got it. Remember, a happy band is a rockin' band. Lance and I were known for being somewhat of sticklers about our backstage food, beverages and "entertainment." We were one of the first bands to institute what is know as a concert "rider" - which is in effect, a list of special demands that the artists make. As word spread in the industry about what we were doing, other bands soon followed suit and began demanding similar treatment.
